Apple just launched the successor to its very successful iPhone 7 in an event in California. The new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 plus are equipped with a 4.7 inch and a 5.5 inch LCD display and also come with the new six core A11 Bionic processor.
The new A11 processor is 70 percent faster than its predecessor and an Apple designed GPU delivers a 30 percent speed boost over the iPhone 7. The phone also comes with a new image signal processor, providing fast auto-focus even in low light, better noise reduction and faster pixel processing.
Other than that, the phones offer wireless charging and the back of the phones are now made of glass instead of aluminium (to support wireless charging). The phones are now able to match the display’s color temperature with ambient light just like the iPad.
The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 plus continue to have a home button with Touch ID. The phones are available in 64 and 256 GB. The camera has also been improved. The new dual-lens camera supports 2x optical zoom, supports iOS camera app’s portrait mode which allows you to blur the background. The camera app also features Portrait lighting, which is based on AI, allowing to intelligently decide image presets like Contour, stage and studio light.
The onboard speakers are 25 percent louder, and should also provide deeper bass.
Preorders start on Sept 15, and arrive on shelves by Sept 22. Prices in the US start at $699 for iPhone 8 and $799 for the iPhone8 plus. The phones will be available in space gray, silver and new shade of gold.
